None would name woman entrepreneurs the real hero who deserves to be in mind. This is an irony of present time. People have fad to forget many real people who have created a difference in the society with stepping out from four walls of their house to do a bit for the society.
Neelam Verma from unknown village of District Solan in Himachal Pradesh She lives with her husband and sonin a joint family system. Like other village women, she arises early morning and heads off to the local fields to help her domestic chorus as cultivation is their main source of living. She said that her husband and son have extended all help to her and her husband wanted that she should do for the welfare of society. My pickles were sought after – whatever went to the market was sold and this meant a lot to me. Learning a new modern technique in pickle-making, my pickles can be preserved for longer. When she sells her pickles, the money she receives gives me confidence that she can manage multiple tasks such as agriculture field work, take care of the livestock, look after the house and run our own little business. This is so inspiring and she believed that in the future she can expand pickle production and sales. She also give credit to her husband and son who take a lot of interest and help her to attract buyers of her special pickles.”
While talking to Neelam Verma who has participated in just concluded exhibition-cum-mela here at Himachal Bhawan said that during five days she earned more than Rs 20,000. After getting training she took a loan of Rs 3 lakh and purchased a machine to produce these products. Then she took a loan of Rs 13 lakh for purchase of four machines from the district industry centre (DIC). She had paid up the loan amount and now she had taken a loan of Rs 35 lakh from the Horticultural Department. The state government had provided 30 per cent of subsidy.
She formed SHG and now 14 women have joined the group. She has floated her own company and got GST registration number. She has been providing employment to 15 women.
With their limited knowledge and traditional methods the women were introduced to modern techniques in producing edible and preservable products which Neelam Verma’s SHG produce. She has also developed skills in packaging, storing and marketing. She has been provided with tools. The state government trained the local women who are mostly engaged in subsistence farming and other small scale activities to become entrepreneurs. Training imparted to her taught her new methods and techniques that now she is incorporating and extending her business and earn extra money for their families.
