The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, marked on 26 June, to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a world free of drug abuse.
Every year, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime issues the World Drug Report, full of key statistics and factual data obtained through official sources, a science-based approach and research along with practical solutions to address the current world drug problem, and remains committed to attaining a vision of health for all based on science.
With the objective of making Chandigarh the Child friendly city, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights conducted a webinar “Preventing Drug use among children and adolescents” on the issue of Protection of Children from Substance abuse.
While addressing the participants, Shri. Manohar Manju, Investigation Officer, NCB, “While evaluating cases on regular basics among children, one of the key drives to substance abuse among children is lack of parental care and access to easy money”. He further elaborated that schools ought to guide them with their mental and social dilemmas, by putting forth good examples. The session aimed at providing information and the right approach to be adopted by schools in order to promote well being of the children.
Chairperson Mrs. Harjinder Kaur in her presidential remarks highlighted, “There has been a worldwide concern regarding effects of COvid-19 lockdown, schools closure leading to unproductive times which can further lead to mental health might make them susceptible to drug use. These sessions are therefore designed to nib the problem at source”.
Ms Niti Mohan, Program Coordinator highlighted that,“ CCPCR is constantly trying to utilize school closures to enhance the learning of school principals which will lead to holistic growth of children and reaching our goal of Child friendly Chandigarh”.

The webinar was a great success as attended by over 100 principals and teachers who not only participated by engaging in the information provided but also by putting forth queries. The event program coordinated by Ms. Janya Sirohi, CCPCR. The program was attended Mr. Chanchal Singh, Consultant RTE , Mr. Kartar Singh, empaneled consultant CCPCR and Mr. Arvind Senior Assistant.

Adani Group’s billionaire Chairman Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar have been issued summons over US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) allegation about paying $250 million (over ₹2,200 crore) in bribes. The duo has been asked to respond within 21 days, as per the notice sent via a US court. The summons were sent to their residences in Ahmedabad.

A terminal at London’s Gatwick Airport has been evacuated due to a security threat. “Safety and security of our passengers and staff remains our top priority. We a re working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” an airport spokesperson said. Railway services are also not stopping at Gatwick Airport station untill further notice.
Congress wins all 3 seats in Karnatka by-polls
Congress candidates registered wins on all three seats which went for by-polls in Karnatka. Pathan Yasirahmedkhan won from Shiggaonwith margin of 13,448 votes, defeating BJP’s Bharath Bommai, E Annapoorna won from Sandur with margin of 9,649 votes defeating BJP’s Bangara Hanumantha. CP Yogeeshwara won from Channapatna with margin of 25,413 votes defeating HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy.
