          Vigilance Bureau nabs ASI for taking Rs 6000 bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its drive against corruption in the state, on Tuesday apprehended an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police (ASI) Rajwinder Singh, posted at police station Lehra city, Sangrur district while accepting a bribe of Rs 6000.

Disclosing this here a spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Anoop Singh, a resident of Lehra town.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that his relative Parvinder Devi was staying on rent at village Gaga. She had lodged a complaint at police station Lehra city against her landlord Rakesh Jindal about his misbehaviour. The accused ASI was not listening to her and meanwhile landlord has locked the portion of the house.

The complainant further alleged that while approaching the above said ASI then he demanded a bribe of Rs 8,000 for allowing tenant Parvinder Devi to pick her belongings from the rented accommodation. The complainant further added that the said police personnel had already taken Rs. 2000 in advance and agreed to accept 6000 as bribe in second instalment.

The spokesperson added that after preliminary verification of this complaint the VB team laid a trap and arrested ASI Rajwinder Singh red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 6000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Patiala range.

   The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
