Twinkle Khanna Reveals How Ganpati Influenced ‘Go Noni Go’ For Dimple Kapadia

Twinkle Khanna’s latest project, “Go Noni Go,” recently premiered at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, captivating audiences with its blend of humor and poignant storytelling. This film, produced by Khanna and co-produced by Applause Entertainment, showcases the incredible talent of her mother, veteran actress Dimple Kapadia, who takes on the lead role of Noni.

Drawing inspiration from Khanna’s charming short story “Salaam Noni Appa,” the film explores themes of love, companionship, and self-discovery in the later stages of life. The story centers around Noni, a woman in her late fifties whose life is unexpectedly transformed when she encounters a yoga teacher, sparking a refreshing romance. Accompanying her on this journey is her lively sister Binni, played by Ayesha Raza, whose humor and warmth add depth to their relationship as they navigate the complexities of love and aging.

In a delightful anecdote shared by Khanna, she reveals her mother’s unique approach to reviewing the script. Kapadia, she said, initially placed the manuscript in her temple, waiting for the Ganpati festival to offer a blessing before diving into the story. “She was waiting for the Ganpati to read it, review the story, before she could read it,” Khanna recounted, showcasing the strong bond and playful dynamic between mother and daughter.

Khanna, who has always had a passion for storytelling, confessed that “Go Noni Go” was a labor of love that took her decades to complete. “I was trying to write this story since I was 18 years old,” she reflected, admitting that she faced multiple challenges along the way. It wasn’t until she turned 40 that she finally finished the narrative, making it a deeply personal achievement.

The film promises to resonate with audiences by shedding light on the often-overlooked experiences of older women. Kapadia’s portrayal of Noni brings authenticity and depth to a character that embodies resilience and the pursuit of happiness at any age. Alongside a talented cast that includes Manav Kaul and Athiya Shetty, and directed by Sonal Dabral with co-writer Nikhil Sachan, “Go Noni Go” stands as a testament to the power of family, love, and the unending quest for self-discovery.
