THREE DAY CONFERENCE ON ONCOLOGY – BEST OF ‘ASCO’ CONCLUDES
A Three Day Mega scientific meet on Oncology –‘Best of ASCO’ (American Society of Clinical Oncology) organised by ASCO in collaboration with Max Hospital, Mohali, has concluded.
“The objective of ‘Best of ASCO’ 2017 was to share most recent research data & papers which have had an impact on patient care, and were presented in the Global ASCO Conference held in June at Chicago, USA. Over 3 days, as many as 500 Cancer Specialists, Surgeons & Radiation Oncologists from abroad & pan India discussed path-breaking papers in Cancer.” said Dr Gautam Goyal, Organising Secretary & Medical Oncologist, Max Hospital.
With the theme of ‘Demystifying Advances in Oncology’, the Conference gave a great opportunity to the fraternity to know about latest paradigms in cancer treatment. “What came up at the conference was that immuno-oncology therapies do hold hope in cancer treatment. Precision or molecular oncology too heralds lot of promise.” said Dr. Sachin Gupta, Co-Organising Secretary & Medical Oncologist, Max Hospital.
The Conference discussed threadbare these newer treatment protocols of Immuno & Molecular oncology.
Dr. Bar Jair, Dy Director, Institute of Oncology, Sheeba Medical Centre, Israel; Dr. Jacob Sands, Assistant Professor, Lahey Medical centre, Boston, Dr. Amit Oza & Dr. Sanjeev Agarwala were the Oncologists from abroad who gave talks. A few well-known names from India who gave presentations were Dr.Purvish Parikh,Director Precision Medicine, Asian Institute of Oncology, Mumbai; Prof. Kumar Prabhash, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai & Dr. D C Dovol, Rajeev Gandhi Cancer Institute, Delhi among others. Dr Harit Chaturvedi, Chairman(Cancer Care), Max Healthcare also attended the meet.
Dedicated lectures by top Oncologists engaged the Gynaecologists’ fraternity on aspects like facts of cancer, the diagnosis, approach to treatment & newer modalities of treatment. There was an exclusive lecture on HIPEC a new form of treatment of ovarian cancer. Organ Preservation surgery in cancer was also an interesting point of discussion.
