Organised by Indian National Theatre in collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Sangeet Natak Academy, three-day 40th Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan took off at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium in Sector 27 here. First day Vocalist Mandar Gadgil,Manjiri Alegaonkar gave mesmerising performances.
Classical singer Mandar Gadgil is also a Classical music teacher who took his training from Pt. Vijay Koparkar. He is associated with music since past 12 years and has rendered his singing in various forms across the country.
Mandar Gadgil in the beginning,took off with Raag Yaman, Vilambit bandish “Ye mora mann” (Ektaal)and Drut bandist-“Ghagar na Bharan Det” teentaal and then followed by raag kadar-“Sab guni ayo”(rupak taal), drut bandish “Kanha Re” (teental)
Manjiri Alegaonkar took her early training from her father Mohan Rao Karvey, who is an established singer of Waze buaw parampara. She also got training from Vamanrao Deshpanday of Jaipur Atrauli gharana, Baban Rao Haldankar of Agra Gharana. She is top grade artist of Akashvani and Doordarshan, and has been felicitated with several prestigious awards.
Manjiri Alegaonkar in her performance started with a vilambit khayal in Raag Jaitshri – Jabti piyu supne mein aaye’ which was set to Drut Teen Taal, followed by a fast tempo khayal set to drut teen taal-‘Bahut din beete’ which was beautifully rendered. She continued with Raag Bihagda, – slow tempo Khayal ‘rein beiran bin piya’ which was set to vilambit Jhaptaal, followed by a fast tempo- ‘Maang bharo ree’ set to Ektaal. She concluded with a beautiful Bhajan.
