Surya Namaskar Event organized by Govt College of Yoga Edu&Health, Sector 23 Chandigarh

Government College of Yoga Education and Health under the aegis of Directorate of Higher Education, and AYUSH Department, of Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Haryana Yog Aayog successfully organized a Surya Namaskar Event 2025 as a part of Sankalp Poorti Samaroh . The event took place in the premises of Government College of Yoga Education and Health, Sector 23-A, Chandigarh.

The event was graced by Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Singh Kataria Ji, as the Chief Guest. The occasion was also honored by the esteemed presence of Shri Rajeev Verma IAS, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh Administration; Dr. Jaideep Arya, Chairman, Haryana Yog Aayog; Shri Ajay Chagti IAS, Health Secretary, Shri Akhil Kumar, Director, AYUSH, DANICS; Shri Rubinderjit Singh Brar PCS, Director Higher Education, Shri Rajiv Tiwari, Director Public Relations, Shri Roshan Lal, Vice Chairman and Dr. Raj Kumar, Registrar; Haryana Yog Aayog; and Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Yoga Education and Health Chandigarh.

The chief guest Hon’ble Governor emphasized on imbibing a yogic lifestyle. He shared that he is a regular practitioner of yoga and follows it as part of his Dincharya. He highlighted the importance of yogic regimen during Brahma-muhurta which improves the overall health and well-being of an individual and society at large. He also acknowledged the efforts of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, who has successfully elevated yoga to a global platform. He urged everyone to continue promoting yoga and carry forward this legacy of Ancient Bharat. He further emphasized the importance of Sanskrit as the foundation of Indian culture as Sanskrit is the language of many ancient Indian scriptures.

In the view of contribution in the field of yoga research and to establish the same at global level honorable Governer felicitated Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, corresponding member of faculty of medicine, Harward Medical School, USA. Dr. Akshay Anand Prof. Incharge CCRYN center PGIMER Chandigarh and Dr. Jaideep Arya Chairman Haryana Yoga Aayog.

During the event, Shri Ajay Chagti, Health Secretary, announced that a Fitness Day will be organised for the citizens of Chandigarh on third Saturday of every month, further promoting the practice of yoga, walkathon, cycling, swimming etc.

In his address, Dr. Jaideep Arya stated that Haryana has integrated Yoga into school curriculum, and introduced Yoga Protocol for Indian Army, Air Force, ITBP, and CRPF. He reiterated that it is the dream of our Hon’ble Prime Minister to make yoga accessible to all, and Aayog is working diligently in this direction. He further encouraged other states, including Chandigarh, to adopt similar initiatives for the promotion and widespread adoption of yoga.

The most remarkable highlight of this event was the award of the Golden Book of World Record to Haryana Yog Aayog for 10,794 institutions participating in Surya Namaskar project 2025.

Before the commencement of the event, the students of the yoga college beautifully performed artistic yoga demonstration. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of yoga enthusiasts including representatives from the Indian Army, Students of Yoga College, Government Medical College & Hospital, Homeopathy College, Dhanwantry College, General public members of Yoga College, and AYUSH instructors of Chandigarh. The participants performed six rounds of Surya Namaskar with excellent coordination and discipline.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion Dr. Nemi Chand State Liaison officer, Dr. Shashi Wahi Principal Commerce College,  Sh. Mange Ram, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Dr. Harish Chander former Registrar Haryana Yog Aayog, Sh. Umesh Narang, HYSA, Sh. R.R. Passi, Patanjali, Sh. Rohit Kaushik, Yogasana Bharat, Nodal officers from various colleges of Chandigarh.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Shri Akhil Kumar, Director, AYUSH, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and participants for their invaluable contribution in making the program a grand success.
