Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal to condemned the brutal lathi charge on teachers who were holding a peaceful protest in support of their genuine demands at Ludhina.
In a statement here, the SAD president said the teachers were protesting because the Congress party was refusing to honour its pre-election promise to regularise all 15,000 contractual teachers after coming to power in the State. “Instead of doing this the government has come out with an anti- human policy which seeks to make the teachers work for a fixed salary of Rs 10,300 per month for three years in order to get regularised. This despite the fact that most of these teachers are drawing salaries ranging from Ra 30,000 to Rs 50,000 per month”, he added.
Mr Badal said the case of 5,187 Pendu Sehyogi Adhyapak was even worse. He said these teachers had been working in rural areas under various kinds of hardships for three years at a consolidated pay of Rs 6,000 per month. “Now when the time has come to regularize their services, the government is reneging from its assurance to induct them as permanent employees”.
Demanding immediate regularisation of all contractual teachers, the SAD president said it was a matter of concern that chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh had said refused to meet the affected teachers who were being forced by the government to accept a three fourth reduction in their salaries.“The SAD is with the teachers and will raise the demand for regularisation of all 15,000 teachers in the ongoing Vidhan Sabha budget session”, he added.
