Senior citizens’ welfare : Bansal promises sops for family living

Congress candidate from Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency and former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has a package deal for the traditionally most revered section of our society – the senior citizens – to ensure their better living.

Interacting with a group of senior citizens out for an evening stroll at the Fragrance Garden in Sector 36 on Friday, Bansal said if he is elected as Member of Parliament for the fifth term, his agenda would be to encourage family living, with married children being incentivised to look after their aged parents in the comfort of their own homes. Concession in annual House tax will be one of the incentives he spelt out.

Bansal informed the gathering that during the tenure of the UPA government at the Centre, special treatment facilities had been created for senior citizens in some city government hospitals. This time he will strive to get an Advanced Geriatric Centre opened in the PGI on the lines of Advanced Eye Centre and Advanced Cardiac Centre, he added.

He also promised that more and more recreational facilities will be established for senior citizens in community centres and at other places so that they can indulge in activities of their interest and stay physically and mentally fit.
