Today, i.e. on  30.06.2018 a Seminar  on Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking and Harmful effects  of Drugs in society was organized in Recruit Training Centre(RTC) , Sector-26, Chandigarh under the guidance of Shri Sanjay Baniwal, I.P.S., D.G.P., U.T., Chandigarh and under the supervision of Sh. Ravi Kumar, I.P.S.,  S.P./ Operations & Training. 105 Police officers (Inspectors, Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors , Head Constables  and Constables) have attended this programme.

During the first session of the Seminar, Dr. Gurwinder Pal Singh, M.B.B.S, M.D. ,  Associate Professor, Psychiatric Department, Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh delivered lecture to the participants in which he explained that  Narcotics Drugs are dangerous for life, because once a person becomes addicted to drugs, he not only has a desire for the drug that keeps returning but also requires higher and higher dose of drug each time.  Narcotic drugs damage the nervous system and have adverse effects on vision, hearing and the cardiovascular system. Overdoses of Narcotic drugs can cause death. Drug addicts have poor social relations and are sometimes responsible for many unlawful activities and  commit crimes to get money for purchasing drugs which are available at very high prices.

The second session of the seminar focused upon the Illicit Trafficking of drugs. Sh. Rajinder Singh & Awadhesh  Kumar , Intelligence Officers from Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh sensitize the participants about the procedure and precautions to be adopted while dealing with  the cases related to N.D.P.S. Act.

The objective of the Seminar was to create awareness among the police personnel on   Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking and Harmful effects of Drugs in Society and how to overcome from these social evils as well as made them aware about the procedure while dealing with the cases related to N.D.P.S. Act.
