Prerna Direct&Iindirect Taxation Conference India’S Taxation Policy – Evolving Possibilities
The direct and indirect taxation conference on India Taxation Policy title “PRERNA” on 12th November 2022 is being organized under the aegis All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (North Zone), Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association, Chandigarh Tax Bar Association, District Tax Bar Association, Mohali, District Tax Bar Association, Panchkula, Punjab Tax Bar Association and Haryana Tax Bar Association.
The program was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri Justice Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice Allahabad High Court today at Chandigarh Judicial Academy, with lighting a lamp in the August presence of other esteemed dignitaries Mr. D.K. Gandhi, President, AIFTP and others.
The introduction and welcome address of the program was given by guest of Honor, Mr. D.K. Gandhi, President AIFTP.
Mr. B.K. Gupta, President Punjab Tax Bar Association, Mr. H.L. Madan Chairman AIFTP, Mr. Grewal, President Punjab Haryana High Court Bar Association and esteemed Members of other associations were also present on the occasion.
Hon’ble Shri Rajesh Bindal in the inaugural session remembered that when Hon’ble Mr. T.K. Thakur was Chief Justice of India then, first conference was held at Chandigarh Judicial Academy. Many dignitaries attended the first ever tax conference online as well. He expressed that such conferences are place of learning for all. He repeatedly praised the importance of tax conferences. He further expressed concern as well as forthcomings of video conferencing which connected people during outbreak of covid-19. Hon’ble Justice Bindal remember one of the greatest lawyers of all time, Mr. P.P. Rao by sharing his mantra to a successful conference.
On the legal aspect of taxation, he expressed that such conferences are learning for all outside court as it includes education, excellence, and ethics. He further termed tax professionals as economic warriors as they help the government in collection of tax but also have a duty that the collective tax should be used for benefit of the nation. He further expressed the need of voluntary compliance for taxpayers. He further expressed that as filing of returns has been made easier by opening of GST portals but also expressed concern as technology being artificial intelligence should not overpower human intelligence. It was stated by Hon’ble Sh. Justice Bindal that tax professionals are bridge between people collecting tax and the taxpayers.
Therefore, the practice of facilitating such tax professionals is appreciated. Lastly, he expressed concern first on absence of GST Tribunals, which are yet to be formed since last 4 years. Absence of Tribunals lead to over burdening the respective High Courts of different States. Secondly, on the major issue of work contracts and referred to it as a grey area in VAT era as well as the present GST era.
In the technical session Additional Solicitor General of India Sh. N. Venkataraman Sr. Advocate Supreme Court, was the keynote speaker and who elaborately talked about the recent show cause notice issued under GST on online gaming. It would be pertinent to note that the said show cause notice is the biggest show cause notice in the taxation history involving a mammoth amount of Rs. Twenty One Thousand Crores which may eventually lead to revenue of more than Rupees Two Lakhs Crores. He also enlightened the audience of the complicated issue of composite supply.
In the subsequent technical session the experts of tax like Sh. Kapil Goyal, Dr. Girish Ahuja and Sh. Vineet Bhatia talked about the intricacies of complexities of taxation laws. The deliberation was well received by the audience who occupied the venue in large numbers from various parts of Punjab and Haryana and other states.
On this occasion, the book by Advocate OP Mittal was inaugurated. Also special package of All India Reporter (Online) was also launched by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal. The said launch was a joint effort of Punjab and Haryana Bar Association and All India Reporter.
Thereafter, tribute was paid to Late Sh. Arvind Mehta and Sh. Deepak Minas, prominent advocates in the field of Taxation, by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal.
The purpose behind organizing this conference is to review the evolving taxation polices and dynamic taxation laws.
