15th edition of PITEX is themed on Tourism
Amritsar, December 1, 2021 : Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) will strengthen industrial relations with many nations as Amritsar being the host for this five day event, will provide a new dimension to the city and vicinity in terms of trade and commerce. These sentiments were said by Gurpreet Singh Khaira, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar while addressing a press conference on the onset of PITEX being organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI) on Wednesday.
The expo has been hosted by Punjab Govt over the last 14 years. PITEX has built its image not only in Punjab but also in abroad years.The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the locals to participate enthusiastically in this event, taking special care of the Covid 19 guidelines as city has kept the tradition alive of this gala hosting which is always a matter of pride for this city.
Earlier, R.S Sachdeva, Chair Punjab State Chapter, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in his address said that PITEX will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Deputy Chief Minister O.P. Soni and Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Gurkirat Singh alongwith Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Navjot Singh Sidhu will be the special guest on this occasion.
He informed that apart from national and international participation, various departments of Punjab Government like Markfed, Punjab Tourism, Punjab Agro Industry Corporation, Punjab State Cooperative Milk Federation, PEDA, Amritsar Development Authority, Punjab Small Industry and Export Corporation, Punjab Cooperative Bank, PUNSUP, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, Mandi Board and others are participating.
A number of Central Government departments like Ministry of MSME, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, NSIC, National Jute Board are ensuring their participation in PITEX.

In his address, Karan Gilhotra, Co-chair, Punjab state Chapter, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that this edition of PITEX is themed on Tourism to explore the potential in the state. There would be an experience sharing on rural entrepreneurship and farm tourism followed by a session on meeting challenging and cashing opportunities in this sector. Further a seminar is being organized on December 3rd to promote MSMEs. He said that there would be a massive participation from Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Thailand and Afghanistan. The Expo will also be marked by the presence of traders from Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
Speaking on the occasion, Jaideep Singh, local convener, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) said that all the stalls have been booked before the Inauguration of PITEX. Madhu Pillai, Regional Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that four hundred stalls have been set up in eight hangars with outmost safety and surveillance.

Tracing down the history of PITEX, Pillai informed that the first edition of PITEX in the year 2005, nearly 150 traders had participated with the footfall of around 50,000 visitors. “The expo has seen tremendous growth over the years with the increase in traders and visitors participation. PITEX is expecting more than 3.5 lakhs visitors in this edition.” Said Pillai
