Over 68000 veterinarians to vote online for VCI polls

The Apex Regulatory Body, Veterinary Council of India (VCI) goes for polls next month from August 20-22, and several issues are dominating the poll scene among thousands of veterinarians who will be voting from across the country. The Elections are being held as a result of Public Interest Litigation filed by Dr. Chirantan Kadian, President, Pashu Chikitsak Mahasangh and Indian Veterinary Association in Punjab and Haryana High Court which directed Union of India to conduct within eight weeks.

Giving the information, Dr. Chirantan Kadian, President Indian Veterinary Association, said, This is for the first time that there will be online voting for the said elections for which over 68,000 registered vet practitioners will vote. These will include vets from private, government, defence forces and corporate sector. The nominations had been filed in June while scrutiny of nominations was recently done on July 13.

Kadian, who is himself contesting the elections with his panel of 11 candidates as Team IVA 11 briefed some of the most important issues dominating the poll scene are Introduction of Combined Vaccine of HS and FMD across the Country, Implementation of Veterinary practice regulations in India, implementation of Section 30(b) of Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 whereby all dispensaries be manned by Veterinary Graduates to provide quality services to the animals and leading to creation of more posts for veterinary graduates, immediate filling up of all vacant posts of Veterinary Officers in all states across the country, and creation of Posts of Veterinary Officers in all states/ UT as per recommendation of Agriculture commission on immediate basis, among several other issues. Dr. Chirantan Kadian is Councillor, World Veterinary Association representing Asia and Oceania regions and Councillor, Commonwealth Veterinary Association.

He informed that Indian Veterinary Association has worked towards the betterment of veterinarians. Some of the achievements include introduction of combined vaccine of HS and FMD in Haryana as trial project. He also emphasised the need of attention to the demands of Pet Practitioners of the Country as advanced diagnostics, Pet Crematoria’s etc.

Dr. Kadian added, Indian Veterinary Association is actively perusing the long pending demand for creation of Indian Council of Fisheries and Veterinary Research (ICFVR).
