One Officer & jawan from Punjab & One from Haryana will be getting gallantry Award

ONE OFFICER AND JAWAN FROM PUNJAB AND ONE FROM HARYANA WILL BE GETTING GALLANTRY AWARD, BRAVERY, DURING INVESTITURE CEREMONY OF SOUTH WESTERN COMMAND

For displaying exemplary courage and gallantry on the face of enemy, bravery of highest order and unflinching fortitude, Major Ishan Dhiman of Punjab, Sepoy Avtar Singh of Punjab  and Sowar Rajesh Kumar of Haryana  will be awarded with “Sena Medal (Gallantry)” during South Western Command(SWC) Investiture Ceremony by Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of SWC.

Major Ishan Dhiman , 21st battalion, the sikh regiment  a native of Punjab had taken out a Line of Control domination patrol in general area Burjikatha Nala. The party observed suspicious movement and challenged them. On being challenged, the patrol was fired upon by a group of three terrorists. The officer immediately took control of the situation and readjusted his party and retaliated with fire on the terrorists. Sensing grave danger to his party, Major Dhiman with utter disregard to his personal safety, repositioned himself and engaged the terrorists and eliminated one terrorist at close range. The officer displayed presence of mind to ensure elimination of all the terrorists.

Sepoy Avtar Singh 21st battalion the sikh regiment, a native of Punjab was ordered to activate  his 84mm Rocket Launcher Detachment on finding of movements of two intruders , picked up by the Thermal Imager at Anti Infiltration Post. Sepoy Avtar Singh envisaged likely escape route of terrorist and made a mental evaluation of range for engagement. He also directed his detachment to track the fall of the round and the movement of terrorist after he opened fire. Singh waited patiently and held his fire. On reaching the killing area, he engaged the terrorist with quick succession of three 84mm Rocket Launcher. The intruders though grievously injured, retaliated by firing small arms and grenades. Despite coming under effective enemy fire, he continued to engage them with accurate and heavy fire on intruders, without fearing for his own life and utter disregard to his personal safety, which resulted in killing of one terrorist and grievously injuring the other.

Sowar Rajesh Kumar, 53rd battalion the Rashtriya Rifles, native of  Haryana during an anti terrorist operation in Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir, the search party came under indiscriminate terrorist fire. Sowar Rajesh on realizing the gravity of situation immediately readjusted himself on terrorist escaping route.

Sowar Rajesh with utter disregard to his personal safety displayed raw courage and unparalleled bravery in single handedly eliminating a hardcore terrorist in a close quarter battle.
