Noted former test cricketers to encourage players at Gully Cricket Tournament as Kapil Dev, Chetan Sharma & Ashok Malhotra confirmed their presence
Allengers Gully Cricket Tournament which is scheduled to start from April 6 will be marked with the presence of veteran cricketers who have made Chandigarh famous all over the world. During a review meeting with Chandigarh Police’s SSP Kawardeep Kaur (IPS) and other high officials at the Cricket Stadium, Sector 16 on Tuesday, UTCA President Sanjay said that along with Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit and special guests, former test cricketer Ashok Malhotra will also grace the occasion. Ashok Malhotra is currently a member of the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) appointed by the BCCI.
Kapil Dev, captain of the 1983 World Cup winning team, will be seen among these players during the tournament on April 20 during the quarterfinal matches. Chetan Sharma will also encourage the players by performing the final match and closing ceremony of the tournament. Tandon said that former Ranji player and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, including high officials of BCCI are likely to witness the grand finale.
Taking stock of the arrangements on the onset of opening ceremony, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said that the tournament would be a ‘memorable’ event for the participating players for which they have made excellent and elaborative arrangements during the tournament. She said the Chandigarh Police band would be welcoming all the players with their performances. Venues close to the teams have been fixed to cut down the travel time of the players while the Chandigarh Police has also taken up the responsibility of transportation of the teams.
