ng a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EKAA Films and PHREE. This MoU marks the beginning of a long-term partnership focused on nurturing talent and providing students with continuous opportunities for professional development in the field of media and communication.

As part of this initiative, NIU also hosted an insightful workshop on “Documentary Filmmaking: Capturing Reality with Creativity,” led by Ms. Madhureeta Anand, a distinguished filmmaker, media personality, and social activist. The workshop provided students with hands-on experience and deepened their understanding of the documentary filmmaking process, further underscoring the university’s commitment to offering practical, industry-relevant education.

The workshop was a collaborative effort between NIU, EKAA Films (a prominent production house), and PHREE (a dedicated NGO), and was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world Ms. Anand is known for her compelling and socially conscious films, sharing her extensive knowledge and experience with the students, inspiring them to explore the art of storytelling through the lens of a camera.

During the workshop, students actively participated in various activities that allowed them to engage with the different stages of documentary filmmaking—from ideation and scripting to shooting and editing. Ms. Anand emphasized the importance of capturing reality with authenticity while also infusing creativity to make the narratives compelling. The students were particularly encouraged to develop stories that highlight social issues, in line with the values upheld by both EKAA Films and PHREE.

Dr. Aarfa Rajput, the Dean of SJMC, NIU stated that the MOU between NIU, EKKA Film, and PHREE will bring more career opportunities for students and more informative and practical workshops will be organized for students to get industry exposure. Dr. Aarfa played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and executing this workshop. Her initiative reflects her commitment to providing students with opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting. Under her guidance, the workshop was a learning experience platform for creativity and innovation among budding journalists and filmmakers.

Students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional like Ms. Anand and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Rajput in making this event possible. The workshop was a resounding success, leaving the students inspired and motivated to pursue their passions in documentary filmmaking with a renewed sense of purpose and creativity.
