NGO Tammana visited the Institute for Blind for their event 'Nazariya'
NGO Tammana, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives, visited the Institute for Blind, Sector 26, Chandigarh on 3rd August as part of their Event # 157, ‘Nazariya’, to engage with & motivate the visually impaired individuals and raise awareness about eye donation amongst the volunteers and the public.
Event SPOC Simran Bhatia ,shared that the team gained insights into the challenges faced by the visually impaired community but more of they celebrated their unique strengths and abilities.’
NGO’s founder Isha Kakaria also gave first hand valuable insights to the team members on the importance of eye donation and its potential to transform lives.
The strength of 170 students present astonished everyone during the interaction where they shared their goals. The team was sensitive on sharing empathy but not pitty and the students deserve as much equal respect and dignity.
She further remarked, “We often focus on what visually impaired individuals can’t do, but the event allowed us to see  firsthand what they can do. Our goal is to ensure they have every opportunity to thrive.”

The visit highlighted several areas where visually impaired individuals often excel in terms of enhanced memory, improved tactile sensitivity, exceptional musical abilities with added resilience and adaptability.
The engagement was complemented by handy refreshments brought in by the NGO members to the event.
Member Manoj Dhania, expressed that ‘What struck me most was the incredible resilience and talent displayed by the students here. It’s crucial that we as a society recognize and nurture their strengths.”
It was emphasized that while 80% of visual impairment is preventable or treatable, there remains a significant need for corneal transplants. Eye donation can help address this gap and provide a second chance at sight for many.

Meenakshi Mahajan, Office Coordinator of the NGO,
“Team’s visit to the Institute for Blind has been truly inspiring. We’re committed to supporting the visually impaired community and spreading awareness about the critical need for eye donation. Just one person’s decision to donate their eyes can give the gift of sight to two individuals.”
Additionally, she stated, the event also gave an opportunity for team members to present a session on “Beti padhao, beti bachao” initiative.
Through this event, Tammana took a small but meaningful step towards creating a more inclusive society where visual impairment is not a limitation, but merely a different way of experiencing and contributing to the world. Every act of support, no matter how small, has the power to transform lives and brighten futures.
