New ASTH GHAT Comes up on Yamuna by MP Dr Vikram Sahney

The revered Gurdwara Majnu ka Tilla witnessed a momentous event today as Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney inaugurated the newly rejuvenated Asth Ghat, a significant place for the immersion of ashes in the national capital. The project, financed entirely by Dr. Sahney, has transformed the previously dilapidated ghat into a serene and beautifully constructed site for performing last rites under the aegis of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Dr. Sahney said that this Asth Ghat is not just for the Sikh community but serves as a civic amenity for all residents of Delhi.

Dr. Sahney said that the new Asth Ghat at Gurdwara Majnu ka Tilla now stands as a symbol of respect and reverence for the departed souls. It features well-maintained pathways, well managed planters and greenery water filtration plant for Yamuna, Spiritual Music, Ardas Hall, aesthetically pleasing surroundings, and facilities to ensure a smooth and respectful immersion process.

Dr. Sahney, a philanthropist known for his numerous charitable endeavors, shared his personal and emotional motivation behind this noble project. “A few years ago, when he visited the ghat to perform the last rites of his beloved mother, he was deeply pained by the neglected state of the site. It was then that he resolved to restore the ghat to its deserved dignity and tranquility.” Said Dr. Sahney

Dr. Sahney also stated that Losing a loved one is an immensely emotional and spiritual experience and the place where we bid our final farewells and immerse the ashes of our loved ones should be a place of peace, beauty, and positive energy. It should not be a shabby and neglected site. This rejuvenation is not just about beautification; it’s about honoring our traditions and providing solace to the grieving families.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by dignitaries, community members, and several families who have long awaited the renovation of the ghat. The President of the DSGMC, Harmeet Singh Kalka, Former MP Tarlochan Singh, and General Secretary of DSGMC, Sh. Jagdeep Singh Kalhon and several other prominent DSGMC members who expressed their appreciation for Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney’s noble cause of Seva for the community by rejuvenating this Asth Ghat and dedicating it to the Sangat.

In addition to this remarkable project, Dr. Sahney announced that he has now started work to renovate the Lodhi Road Crematorium, further extending his efforts to provide dignified and respectful spaces for final rites.
