My job to resolve issues, says Harish Rawat after meeting Navjot Singh Sidhu
Congress’ Punjab affairs in charge and AICC general secretary Harish Rawat today said he was on a “mission” to resolve issues among the state party leaders, besides discussing the PPCC recast.
After landing here this evening, Rawat headed straight to the Punjab Congress Bhavan to have an audience with PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. Working presidents Kuljit Nagra and Pawan Goel and PPCC general secretary (organisation) Pargat Singh were also present at the meeting that went on for over two hours.
Harish Rawat courted a controversy when he equated PPCC working presidents Kuljit Nagra, Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Danny and Pawan Goel, besides PPCC general secretary Pargat Singh with Panj Pyaras. Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema said Rawat must apologise and take back his words.
According to sources, Sidhu is learnt to have told Rawat that four issues — termination of power purchase agreements, crackdown on drug mafia, bringing culprits to justice in sacrilege cases and outright rejection of central farm laws by the state Assembly — needed to urgently addressed by the state government. Otherwise, there was no use of him being made the PPCC chief. Rawat is learnt to have told Sidhu and Pargat that the statements being made by them were not helping the party and workers.
Tomorrow, Rawat is expected to meet Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, dissidents and other party leaders.
Clarifying his position on the party’s CM face for the 2022 Assembly poll, Rawat said it would be decided as per party’s tradition. On infighting, he said, “It’s my job to resolve differences among party leaders and I will hopefully do that.”

Pargat Singh had recently questioned Rawat over his remark that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh would lead the party’s poll campaign. In course correction, Rawat later said PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was the overall in charge of elections.
