Highest tax free salary, quick promotion, high quality life style, long holidays after work and opportunities to travel the world, who doesn’t want a job like this. Merchant Navy is a profession in which all these dreams come true. But the youth of North Indians are unable to join  Merchant Navy due to lack of information. While South Indians join Merchant navy in large numbers. Shri Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari said this while inaugurating the VR Maritime Services, Mohali. Member of Parliament Shri Manish Tewari described the opening of VR Maritime as a great opportunity for the youth of Punjab to explore merchant navy as a carrier and congratulated the entire management for this initiative to make Chandigarh Tri-city the shipping hub.  Youth leader & social worker Raja Kanwarjot singh was also present at the moment.

Giving information about the VR Maritime Services, Captain Sanjay Prashar, said that majority of merchant navy crewing companies are located in South India resulting in lack of awareness, our effort is to create awareness and job opportunities for aspiring candidate and existing seafarers. Further, he highlighted that existing seafarers face a lot of difficulties while joining, thus we have created a facility where all formalities including documentation, kitting and medical will be done under one roof and near to their home. He said with the right infrastructure, guidance and  the existing talent he sees Chandigarh as the shipping hub of India by 2030.

Giving details about the future prospects Capt. R K  Muduli, Deputy Nautical Advisor Cum Addl DG( Nautical) GoI  guest of Honour at the function said  that 90 percent of the world’s trade is done through ships  including very large oil/ chemical tankers, bulk carriers  and container ships. Ships are still the cheapest and best means of transport. However, India is contributing only 9 % of the world’s maritime trade, while by 2024 this contribution will increase to  11%. In such times, there are excellent job opportunities for the youth in Merchant Navy specially from north India. It may be mentioned that a Merchant Navy crewing company  is venturing in Mohali, which gives seafarers opportunity to complete all joining formalities under one roof.
