Mayawati has decided to remove her nephew, Akash Anand, from his position as her political heir within the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), citing the need for him to attain maturity before assuming such responsibilities.
The BSP supremo, Mayawati, announced on Tuesday that Akash Anand would no longer serve as her political successor and the National Coordinator of the party, emphasizing that he must first develop maturity before taking on these significant roles.
In a series of statements shared on X, Mayawati underscored the BSP’s commitment to the principles of self-respect and social change championed by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. She expressed that while grooming a new generation to carry forward this mission, she had initially appointed Akash Anand as the National Coordinator and her successor. However, in the best interest of the party and its objectives, she has decided to relieve him of these duties until he demonstrates full maturity.
Mayawati also confirmed that Anand Kumar, Akash’s father, will continue to serve within the party in his existing capacity.
Last year, on December 10, Mayawati had publicly named Akash Anand, aged 28 and an MBA graduate from London, as her successor. He was entrusted with the role of the party’s National Coordinator.
Recently, Akash Anand faced scrutiny after a Model Code of Conduct violation case was filed against him in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. This action followed an incident where the district administration took notice of Anand’s speech at a campaign rally, during which he drew comparisons between the state’s BJP government and the Taliban.
