Mahindra reiterates commitment toward Road Safety with #1CroreHaathSaathSaath

Joins SIAM, MoRTH and D2S to propagate Road Safety among stakeholders

 

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd), a part of the USD 20.7 billion Mahindra Group, recently participated in a unique campaign#1CroreHaathSaathSaath organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), in association with its NGO Partner, Drive Smart Drive Safe (D2S), reiterating its commitment toward safer roads across the nation.

 

Around 80 employees and 78 community volunteers formed an impressive human chain on the Western Express Highway, near its Kandivali plant, to educate drivers and pledge their commitment toward safe driving. The event in Mumbai was flagged off by Mr. Vijay Kalra, CEO – Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd. & Chief – Manufacturing Operations at Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd.  A countrywide silence was also observed in remembrance of victims of road deaths.

 

Talking about the significance of the campaign, Mr, Vijay Kalra said, “Road safety is a major cause for concern across our country and awareness needs to be constantly reinforced. The #1CroreHaathSaathSaath campaign is a unique platform to support and pledge our commitment toward road safety. We at Mahindra, have always been involved in raising awareness about safe driving practices and adhering to traffic rules, both within the organization and among our stakeholders. Such initiatives only stir the need for a lifelong commitment to become more disciplined and responsible drivers.”

The #1CroreHaathSaathSaath campaign kicked off nationwide on 4th February, 2019 at Derabassi in Punjab.The campaign aims to engage 50 lakh individuals in an act of solidarity, by joining 1 crore hands during the Road Safety Week 2019 commemorated across 100 cities.

The campaign aims to establish “Drive Safe” Clubs in Organizations, Schools, Colleges, Universities, Corporates, Start-ups, RWA’s, and Institutions by asking members to sign and follow a 6-point Code of Conduct.  The “Drive Safe” Club will reward good driving behaviour through a Mobile Based AI app that will be free to all Road Users who sign the Code of Conduct.

 

M&M Ltd. has been an actively associated with SIAM-SAFE and MoRTH celebrating the National Road Safety Week annually. Under the aegis of the National Road Safety Week, various activities such as road safety awareness for dealer staff, drivers’ education programs through dealer workshops, video presentations on “Safety Technology in Automobiles” and various drawing competitions for school children, have been organized.

A few years ago, M&M Ltd. launched an ambitious ‘Zero Fatality Corridor (ZFC)’ program in partnership with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd (MSRDC) and implemented by its NGO Partner, SaveLIFE Foundation. The ZFC program is driven by the 4Es framework of Road Safety namely Education, Engineering, Enforcement and Emergency Care and is aimed at transforming the Mumbai Pune Expressway (MPEW) into a Zero Fatality Corridor.
