Jawa Nomads Punjab da Tor 2020 culminates at Chandigarh
The Jawa Nomads Punjab Ride, aka Punjab da Tor 2020, that kicked off in Amritsar on March 3, 2020, culminated at Chandigarh. This was the ninth and final pitstop for the riders after Hussainiwala, Attari, Bhatinda, Ludhiana, Nakodar, Jalandhar, Nangal Dam and Anandpur Sahib, the gang of riders were in the City Beautiful Chandigarh.
The ride which kicked-off from Amritsar with 30 Jawa Nomads (riders) traversed 1250kms over six days and five nights through the heart of Punjab. At every stop Jawa nomads paid homage to all that makes Punjab – valour, bravery, sacrifice, heartiness, food, music and the penchant for living.
The gang of riders reached Chandigarh on March 7th riding along Nangal Dam and Anandpur Sahib and celebrated with a boisterous concert by the evergreen Gurdas Maan at Panjab University. Exemplifying the concept of Ride to Give Back, the riders visited SOS village, Rajpura today and celebrated Women’s Day with the mothers and children at the village.
Anupam Thareja, Co-founder & Director, Classic Legends Pvt Ltd said: “Punjab is very close to me and Jawa so when we planned Punjab Da Tor, we ensured that we pay homage in Jawa style to every attribute of this great state. From a very humbling experience at the Attari border, getting the honor to install the Borderman statue to soaking in the spirituality at the Harmandir Sahab to relishing the amazing food at every stop and not to forget the foot thumping music – this Punjab Da Tor has been soul satisfying.
Jawa has always been kept alive and roaring by its Kommuniti. During this ride, the love we received from our kommuniti has been an overwhelming experience. Watching vintage bike riders interact, tease and have fun with the Jawa nomads strengthened this belief.”
Jawa Nomads is an official ride programme of Jawa Motorcycles, exclusively for Jawa customers. It is more than just riding to a destination, but about riding with the purpose of giving back to the community.
The Punjab da Tor started on a spiritual note and the spirit of giving back with a seva at Shri Harmandir Sahib. During the ride, Jawa Nomads rode to Hussaniwala with a stop at Khem Karan – graveyard of battle tanks and laid wreath at the Samadhi of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. Respectively, Anupam Thareja, Co- Founder & Director, Classic Legends along with celebrated Punjabi folk singer Rabbi Shergill and actress, avid biker and former Miss India Gul Panag, installed a Borderman statue as a tribute to the BSF jawans who guard our borders. The Nomads received warm welcome from the BSF personnel at both the locations where they spent some time with the BSF Jawans and expressed their gratitude for their selfless services. Jawa also felicitated the SOS Mother’s community on the important role they play in the SOS Children’s life.
Jawa and the armed forces:
Jawa has always had a strong and emotional connect with the armed forces. Jawa Motorcycles always believed in contributing to the armed forces in its own ways – from fundraisers to building awareness about the sacrifices made by the forces to recreating magic of 1971 Hells Angels – Jawa has always stepped up. Under the Forever Heroes initiative fundraiser, Jawa raised Rs 1.49 crore by auctioning 13 Jawa motorcycles from its first production batch. The amount was handed over to Armed Forces Flag Day Fund to be utilized towards the education of children of martyrs of Indian Armed Forces. At the event held in Manekshaw Center, were a special group of retired officers called the Hell’s Angels. The four former Indian Air Force officers, who were part of a 5-member team from the 1971 Indo-Pak war owned the original classic Jawas back in the day. This group of five IAF pilots were part of the same squadron in 1971 and there’s a photograph of the five sitting on their Jawa bikes. Jawa recreated the same moment and invited the four members to the ceremony who recreated the same moment by sitting on the new Jawa bikes, as they did in the Bareilly airbase. A helmet was kept on the fifth bike in remembrance of the fifth deceased officer.
During the Ibex Trail 2019 Jawa had undertaken initiatives of giving back to the community and supported the War Heroes Colony for the completion of Martyrs’ Community Hall. War hero Colonel Sonam Wangchuk MVC, who led a column in 1999 as a part of Op VIJAY in the Batalik Sector to occupy Ridge Line at a height of about 5,500 m so as to pre-empt its occupation by enemy and infiltration joined us on the Ibex Trail.
