IRSDC invites Industry to upgrade Chandigarh Railway Station
‘Chandigarh Railway Station is one of our Top Priorities’, says Mr S K Lohia, MD & CEO, IRSDC
Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized a Roadshow for Proposed Infrastructure and Commercial Development at Chandigarh Railway Station on DBFOT Basis, here today in CII Northern Region Headquarters at Chandigarh.
Mr S K Lohia, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IRSDC addressed the gathering and told them that “IRSDC is the only nodal agency entrusted with the task of development and transformation of railway stations of the entire nation, and we shall take up this task phase-wise.” He also educated that the lease period for development partners have been extended up to 99 years from 45 years with the approval of the Union Cabinet and that minimum of 30 per cent of residential development is also permitted. Mr Lohia shared that the development work has already begun in some form at 100 Indian railway stations and Chandigarh holds one of the top priority locations.
Other members from IRSDC informed the industry participants about various opportunities that they have to associate with the railway development projects.
Chandigarh is one of the five stations where the ‘Integrity Facility Management’ regime of IRSDC is rigorously working upon improving passenger experience in addition to the proposed infrastructure development; the other four being Bengaluru, Pune, Anand Vihar and Secunderabad.
A digital plan was also showcased during this session that visually represented the possibilities of transforming the Chandigarh station, together with upgradation of the road networks leading to it.
A total built up area of 25 lakh sq. feet is offered to the developers by IRSDC and bidders were invited to participate in the same.
The RFQ and RFP guidelines were also discussed in detail towards the seven open tenders for developing Chandigarh railway station.
Mr Harjeet Singh, Director – Industries, Chandigarh Administration also graced the occasion and offered full support towards the prospective state-of-art development of the Chandigarh railway station.

Mr Sarvjeet Singh Virk, Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council apprised the ventures of IRSDC and participants from the industry and re-iterated that “The main objective of the IRSDC is to develop/ re-develop the existing/new railway station(s) which will consist of upgrading the level of passenger amenities by new constructions/renovations including re-development of the station buildings, platform surfaces, circulating area, etc., to better standards, so as to serve the need of the passengers.”
