HEALTH LITERACY FESTIVAL HELD, BOOK AYUSHMAN BHARAT AUTHORED BY DR R KUMAR RELEASED

SPEAK India’s Health literacy festival was organized by Society for Promotion of Ethical and Affordable Health Care, in collaboration with Lions Club Chandigarh Harmony at Sharda Sarvhitkari Senior Secondary School, Sector 40 D.

The theme of the festival was ‘Universal health literacy as a precursor to universal health coverage’, which is the theme of this year’s World Health Day falling on April 7, according to Dr. R.Kumar president of SPEAK India. “Life of many patients can be saved with health literacy, besides preventing the choking of hospitals from the overload of dying patients”, added Dr. Kumar.

In the first session honours were conferred by Justice Anil Kshetarpal of Punjab and Haryana High court, on the participants of essay writing contest‘for three categories of contestants – school students, college students and open to all professionals.

Cash awards were presented to Ms Rajneesh Kaur, Kanishka Goswami and Devika Sood.

MM Medical College Solan was presented trophy to mark maximum participation to the cause of health literacy.

A book titled ‘New India’s Ayushman Bharat published by Aggarwal Prakashan and written by Dr R Kumar was also released by the chief guest and other dignitaries.

The book highlights the good features of the scheme, while pointing out the fact that without health literacy the scheme cannot succeed fully, said Rajeev Ranjan Roy, Senior Journalist, ANI.

Justice Kshetarpal lauded the efforts of the NGOs in spreading health literacy and healthy life style.

In the second session eminent speakers dwelt on various aspects of health literacy.

Dr. Jang Dilawari internationally known physician elaborated the connection of food and drinks to the health of liver and intestine.

Dr. Arun Aggarwal professor of public health PGI emphasized the importance of health literacy in preventive and promotive healt.

Dr. Balram Gupta director of Chandigarh judicial Academy compared the importance of health literacy to legal literacy.

As legal literacy can reduce litigation, health literacy can reduce the load of ailments on hospitals.
