Handbooks release to raise the learning level in Chandigarh government schools.
To increase the learning level in government schools, Mr Sharma, Secretary Education, Chandigarh, launched the Teachers’ handbook based on Learning Outcomes at Elementary level in Hindi, English, Mathematics, EVS, Science and Social Science at UT Guest House here on Friday..
A total 33 books have been prepared by Samagra Shiksha, Education Department, U.T, Chandigarh. While making the handbook, it has been ensured that the learning needs of students with different learning levels i.e. Pre-Basic, Basic, Proficient and Advanced, are being catered and the academic progress of the student can be monitored. These Handbooks will enable the teachers to inculcate learning skills among the students and will help the teachers to not only focus on teaching learning processes but also will facilitate state functionaries towards ensuring quality education in the schools by monitoring at different levels during random schools visits.
These handbooks includes list of learning outcomes and progress sheets for tracking the progress of each student after completion of unit or after the attainment of the set learning outcome. The assessment sheet will help the teacher to identify the current level of the learner as well as to identify low performance and below average students which will further help the investigator to carry out remedial procedure for low achievers. It will motivate the teacher to devise new ways of classroom teaching in order to attain the set objectives for learning outcomes. These tools will also help the parents to know about the level of achievement of their wards and will help the teacher to know the progress of students in the classroom.
Mr Sharma appreciated the hard work and efforts of all the team members behind the preparation of these handbooks and shared that these tools should be properly utilized in all the schools for improving the learning levels of the students. All of the officers and staff from schools were also intimated that Chandigarh has been selected for PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) across the country to be conducted in 2021. It will cover students from the schools of Chandigarh (Govt, Govt aided, Private, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodya Vidyalayas). He also mentioned that these handbooks prepared by the teachers of government schools would help in enhancing the learning level of the students and in preparing them for PISA, hopes Mr Sharma.
