As many as 32 girls team along with 256 teams will be seen in action at the UTCA’s Gully Cricket tournament which will be commencing from July 26. During the meeting held under the chairmanship of UTCA’s President Sanjay Tandon it was decided to promote girls cricket as players across the city between 14 to 18 years are eligible to participate.
According to Tandon, there is immense potential in girls cricket in Chandigarh and this time UTCA’s effort is to bring out those hidden talents through this tournament. He informed that in the last edition also a few girls teams had participated informally which was a successful pilot run. This time separate matches will be organized for them.
This two week long tournament will be played across at nine different grounds for the convenience of the players. The tournament is aimed to connect the youth with cricket by keeping them away from drugs. During the meeting, a cake was also sliced to celebrate Team India becoming the T20 World Cup champion.
