Fortis Cardiologist interacted with Aryans Nursing students on World Heart Day

Fortis Cardiologist interacted with Aryans Nursing students on World Heart Day: On the occasion of World Heart Day, to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) Aryans Institute of Nursing, Rajpura, and Near Chandigarh organized a webinar on the theme “Use Heart to connect”. Dr. Ankur Ahuja, Senior Consultant, Cardiac Sciences, Fortis Hospital, Mohali interacted with faculty members and the Aryans students of B. Sc. Nursing, GNM, ANM, B. Pharma and D. Pharma. Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar.

While interacting with the students, Dr Ahuja said that CVDs affected the heart and blood vessels which supply blood to lungs, brain, kidneys and other parts of the body and were the most common cause of death globally. They include diseases which were associated with lifestyle choices such as an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use and excessive use of alcohol, and therefore are preventable to some extent, he explained.

Dr Ahuja further said that in India, the prevalence of CVDs is estimated to be around 54.5 million. CVD is killing 17.5 million people a year and over 23 million predicted deaths from CVDs by 2030. About 80 per cent of all CVDs manifest themselves as heart attacks or strokes and 75 per cent cases come from low and middle-income countries, he added.

He told that any sign of a heart trouble should be taken seriously as it is linked to your longevity and survival. It is important to eat right, exercise, stay away from smoking and alcohol and avoid junk food to avoid getting heart diseases, stressed Ahuja.
