Cook held for murder of 98-year-old woman of Sector 8, Chandigarh
A 31-year-old cook, who lost his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has been arrested by the police for the murder of a 98-year-old woman of Sector 8.
The victim, Joginder Kaur, was found murdered in her house on August 6. Her maid, Bhavna, had stated that she had gone for an evening walk and on returning home, she found Joginder Kaur lying unconscious with blood oozing out of her throat. Bhavna called her husband and the police were informed. A PCR team rushed the victim to the GMSH, Sector 16, where she was declared brought dead.
The police said during the course of investigation, Kailash Bhatt, a native of Uttarakhand, who, along with his wife and an 18-month-old son, was residing at the servant’s quarter of a house in Sector 8, was apprehended.
Kailash’s questioning revealed that he worked as cook and lost his job during the lockdown. He was under debt and had to pay his two-wheeler’s instalments. He decided to break into the victim’s house and steal money and valuables to meet his financial needs.
