Cook held for murder of 98-year-old woman of Sector 8, Chandigarh:In a major breakthrough Police Station Sector 03 of Chandigarh Police under the close supervision of Sh. Ketan Bansal, IPS, W/SP City, Chandigarh and Sh. Charanjit Singh Virk, DSP/Central a team headed by SHO Insp. Sher Singh and Insp. Satwinder Singh is able to solve the cold blind murder of 98 years old lady Smt. JoginderKaur by arresting the accused.
 Brief facts of the case :- On 06.08.2021, at about 8.16 pm, an information received from control room regarding a brought dead body of  a lady namely JoginderKaur R/o H No 728, Sec 8, Chd.On this information, InspSher Singh, InspSatvinder Singh, SI Suneel Kumar along with police party reached at the spot, where a servant of house namely Smt. Bhavna residing in the said house met, who disclosed that today at about 6.15 pm, she went for evening walk as usual and when she returned in the house, found her landlady JoginderKaur, lying unconscious in injured condition on the floor and blood oozing from her throat, thereon she called her husband and later PCR Vehicle rushed her to hospital GH-16, Chd.
 Arrest of accused :-
 Under close supervision of Sh. KetanBansal, IPS, W/SP City, Chandigarh and Sh. Charanjit Singh Virk, DSP/Central, a team headed by InspSher Singh, InspSatvinder Singh and SI Suneel Kumar has been constituted. After inspecting & examine the crime scene & by collecting information from different sources and a day/night search was conducted & secret sources have been geared up. Later on, all the sincere efforts on the information of secret informer the accused has been arrested from near park Sector 8/A Chandigarh.

Motive of murder -The accused person lost his job due to covid lockdown and under the financial crisis he planned to break into any house for stealing money & valuables as he had to pay installments for his bike. Hence firstly he surveyed in nearby areas in Sector 8 and established that an old lady Age 98 years residing alone in H No 728, Sec 8, Chd and thereafter, he noted the activities of landlady’s servants and established that servant of landlady go for evening walk at about 6.30 pm for 30-45 minutes. On the evening of 06.08.2021, he targeted the deceased’s house & broke into the house for stealing. When the deceased caught him & started shouting thereon the accused manhandled and finally attacked on her with a knife.

A 31-year-old cook, who lost his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has been arrested by the police for the murder of a 98-year-old woman of Sector 8.

The victim, Joginder Kaur, was found murdered in her house on August 6. Her maid, Bhavna, had stated that she had gone for an evening walk and on returning home, she found Joginder Kaur lying unconscious with blood oozing out of her throat. Bhavna called her husband and the police were informed. A PCR team rushed the victim to the GMSH, Sector 16, where she was declared brought dead.

The police said during the course of investigation, Kailash Bhatt, a native of Uttarakhand, who, along with his wife and an 18-month-old son, was residing at the servant’s quarter of a house in Sector 8, was apprehended.

Kailash’s questioning revealed that he worked as cook and lost his job during the lockdown. He was under debt and had to pay his two-wheeler’s instalments. He decided to break into the victim’s house and steal money and valuables to meet his financial needs.

Sources in the police said Kailash knew the victim’s maid and her husband since they were also from Uttarakhand. “The accused was aware that the elderly woman lived alone in the house and he could easily steal valuables from there,” the sources added.

The police said the accused broke into the victim’s house. The elderly woman saw him and raised the alarm. Fearing that he might get caught, the accused attacked the woman with a knife and fled the spot.

The police have recovered the clothes and shoes which the accused was wearing when he perpetrated the crime. These will be sent to a forensic lab.
