6th CII Northern Region Environment, Health & Safety Competition concluded successfully
Taking forward the agenda of Environment, Workplace Health safety, 6th CII – Northern Region Inter Industry Competition on Environment, Health and Safety Management (EHS) was organized from 16 – 17 May 2019 at Gurugram to acknowledge the vision and exemplary commitment of the companies towards environmental responsibility, concern for occupational health and safety of employees and society as a whole.
Highlighting the contribution of EHS, Mr Shikhar Jain, Principal Counsellor, CII – ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development & the key jury member for the competition said such competitions encourage the development of a culture of continuous improvement in an organizations and brings out innovative approach at work that organizations are implementing in their area of operations. He added apart from creating a network of excellence and best practices the best performers will be recognized by CII.
Mr Sandeep Shrivastava, Senior Vice President, Environment and Sustainability, Ambuja Cement Limited & Jury member said environmental care is very pertinent subject in view of burgeoning environmental challenges and climate change scenario. He added this competition will provide an excellent opportunity for Industries in the northern region to showcase their benchmarking best practices and initiatives & also learning from other applicants.
Explaining the importance of EHS, Mr M M Sharma, Independent Consultant and Former Vice President – Safety & Health, LANCO Power Limited & jury member for the competition shared that the operations of industry are coming under close public scrutiny. Industry is beginning to recognize that it needs to take into account the environmental impact of its operations as well as the health and safety of the workers and community in which they operate.
Top 6 companies have been identified during this 2 day competition – Tata Motors Ltd, Pantnagar, Denso India, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Haridwar, Afcon Infrastructure Katra Bridge Project, Nestle India, Panipat & Saint Gobain Bhiwadi Rajasthan.The jury will now visit these manufacturing facilities for further assessment and identify top 3 winners who will be awarded later by CII.
Award for best innovative practices was bagged by GKN Driveline, award for best Health & Safety Initiative was given to Gabrial India & best Environment Initiative ward was given to ITC, Haridwar.
Special recognition prizes were bagged by Honeywell Electrical Devices India Ltd., Dehradun, Renew Power Limted, Gurugram & Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Haridwar.

During these two days of competition a Technical Session on EHS Regulatory & Risk Management was also conducted for the team participant and delegates. 20 EHS teams and delegates from 23 organizations with strong commitments towards Environment, Health & Safety Management participated in a 2 day event.
