Chandigarh on High Alert Following Suspected Grenade Blas

A suspected grenade explosion rocked Chandigarh on Wednesday evening near a residence believed to be owned by a non-resident Indian (NRI).

Eyewitnesses reported that three individuals arrived at the scene in an autorickshaw shortly before the blast, which occurred around 6:15 pm. The explosion was audible from over a kilometer away.

Surveillance footage captured the explosion, with the blast clearly audible at the 14-second mark of the 30-second video.

Chandigarh Police, alongside forensic experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), have been on-site gathering evidence and investigating the nature of the explosive.

Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur described the incident as a low-intensity blast that damaged some windows and pots.

She noted that the initial report suggests two individuals threw a grenade at the house while the complainants were on their verandah. Efforts are underway to trace the suspects and their vehicle.

Following the incident, authorities in neighboring Mohali have been placed on high alert, as the suspects reportedly fled in an autorickshaw potentially heading towards Mohali.

SSP Mohali has issued an urgent alert to all field officers, instructing them to be vigilant at checkpoints and patrols.
