Cancer Survivors come together for a fun-filled session

  Saarthak, the cancer support group at Fortis, organized a colourful session to commemorate World Cancer Day at Fortis Hospital, Mohali today. Cancer Survivors had an unforgettable day at a special event organized by Saarthak, a cancer support group at Fortis.

Keeping in mind that laughter is the best medicine and music is therapy for the soul, Fortis Mohali had planned an afternoon full of fun and music for cancer survivors and patients.

In a fun-filled and colourful session, friends and families of more than 50 cancer survivors came under one roof to celebrate & raise awareness about cancer. The event was an attempt to reach out to everyone suffering from cancer so that ‘no one should face cancer alone.’ Another interesting part of the event was ramp walk for the survivors by the Fortis Oncology team, led by Dr Rajeev Bedi, Director, Medical Oncology, who were cheered by the audience.

Comedians from Conviction Events and Media performed, for a packed house of audience. This group of tricity youngsters promote poetry and live comedy in the city in an effort to bring the residents closer to art. Students of NavBalNiketanshowcased a Nepali dance. They also presented cards of valour to the patients and survivors while Ozi gym presented bhangra dance performance.

Cancer survivors performed stand-up comedy. They were able to transform their pain into humour and make everyone laugh. Voice of India winner Bannet Dosanjh enthralled the audience with songs.‘’When I was approached by Fortis Mohali to perform for cancer survivors, I jumped at the opportunity. To see them smile and enjoy my music brought a lot of satisfaction to me.’’

 

In keeping with the lively and positive spirit of the occasion, cancer survivors shared their personal experiences of having beaten cancer, inspiring the audience with their grit and bravery. The survivors were trained by Deepak Issar, professional scriptwriter and budding stand-up comedian. The various contests drew an energetic response from the kith & kin of the survivors who participated with lot of gusto.

It is heart wrenching yet moving to hear their stories of fight against cancer.
