Bar Council pursuing an agenda with regard to the electricity charges
The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana is the statutory body of Advocates established under the Advocates Act 1961 which is entrusted with the responsibility of regulating advocates in the State of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh
Bar Council has been pursuing an agenda with regard to the electricity charges of Advocates Chambers within the Court Complexes with various Governments of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, and the present body under the Chairmanship of Sh.Minderjeet Yadav had been vociferously pursuing this agenda with the Govt. of Haryana since long and recently the Government of Haryana through its statutory body i.e. Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission vide its tariff order dated 30.03.2021 has decided to charge the Advocates at the cost of LT supply instead of NCL/Commercial rates reducing the cost from Rs. 7.05/unit to Rs. 6.90/unit i.e. making a reduction of around 15 paisa per unit for all Advocates consuming Electricity via their Chambers in the State of Haryana.
It is well settled that the nature of duty which an Advocate discharges is in nature of Public duty and thus is aninseparable part of judicial system where on a daily basis the Chambers of the Advocates are occupied for ensuring the smooth function of the third pillar of the Constitution and aiding in the magnanimity and prevalence of the rule of law. Bar Council is committed to its agenda of providing fully subsidised electricity to all the Advocates in the States of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh for which expeditious efforts are being made by pursuing the matter with the concerned quarters.

Meanwhile, Sh. Minderjeet Yadav, the Chairman of the Bar Council in the interregnum whole-heartedly extends his warm regards and gratitude to the Government of Haryana through the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar Ji for considering this request and making the much needed reduction, which will help in reducing the financial distress which the officers of the Court are suffering especially due to Covid-19.
