Attack on son of former councilor:Victim demands immediate action against accused
Vikas Gupta, a resident of Manimajra and son of a senior BJP leader and former councillor Des Raj Gupta has named as main accused Zirakpur residents Arun Malik, Ram Kumar & Jai Singh and a political leader Harjit Singh Minta of criminal conspiracy, trespassing his family’s commercial property through the installation of electricity meter based on fake papers, attacking him and even theft of DJ equipment worth lakhs kept in the store of the property. In a new development, Gupta who fears for his life has said that the police are going slow in the case for reasons best known to them.
Gupta said, “On August 13 I gave a complaint in this regard to the Punjab DGP which has been marked to SSP, Mohali but despite this, the Zirakpur police have not filed an FIR against the accused nor is it investigating the case properly. I want an FIR to be registered forthwith and the matter investigated thoroughly because I feel threatened as my attackers have not been arrested and can again attack me with intent to kill me like last time.”
It is important to state here that Manimajra resident Vikas Gupta has a commercial property in Kalgidhar Market which he had bought in 1998 and got it transferred to his Aunt Rekha Gupta’s name in 2003. When lockdown restrictions were lifted Gupta visited the property and discovered to his utter shock that there was an electricity meter fixed in his premises, which was not installed by him. Gupta approached the XEN of the electricity department, Zirakpur and gave a complaint in this regard on 31st July, this was further marked by the XEN to SDO Commercial Nishant Bansal. Vikas Gupta informed that the meter was removed on August 14. When the electricity department was asked that how the meter was installed it was informed that this was a domestic connection issued on basis of land records (fard) and that the meter was in name of one Arun Malik whose Aadhar Card was also given to department as proof.
Gupta added, “I immediately understood that my property’s fake papers have been made. After realizing the gravity of the issue I gave a complaint against the accused related to this fraud on August 1, to SSP Mohali and a copy to SHO Baltana.”
It is pertinent to state here that as soon as a complaint about fraudulent meter installation was given to police Gupta was attacked on August 5 night in Kalgidhar market, he was accompanied by his friend Rajesh Nagar, in fact, on the same night a theft was effected in the property’s godown who’s CCTV footage is with Vikas and has been also given to the police. After all this Vikas immediately got constructed a boundary wall around his property and put a lock on it.
After the life-threatening attack on Gupta he immediately -on August 6, tweeted the DGP, Punjab, and CMO and named one Jai Singh as the attacker.
Gupta raised the issue many times with the police and demanded action to which a flimsy reply was given that the in-charge is new. Feeling a threat to life Vikas again gave a complaint on August 18 to Baltana Police Station’s SHO Kulwant Singh who assured that soon action will be taken.

It is noteworthy that Vikas Gupta was threatened by someone by taking the name of Zirakpur Congress leader Harjit Singh Minta. When media published this news Minta had called the victim to meet him & in the meeting, Vikas made a video in which Minta also spoke. In the video which went viral Minta has said that he is not involved in the case and will stand by the victim and in fact give a complaint to the police against the caller who threatened Gupta. However, the complaint is still to be given by Minta to the police.
