Amazon India Wins Prestigious National Award for Empowering Individuals with Disabilities

Amazon India announced its receipt of the prestigious National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, awarded by the Government of India. This esteemed recognition, bestowed by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DoEPwD), and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, acknowledges the company’s outstanding contributions toward creating an inclusive and accessible environment for individuals with disabilities.

The award was presented by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Honourable President of India, at Vigyan Bhavan on International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Sunday, December 3, 2023. This accolade serves as a testament to Amazon India’s unwavering commitment to fostering a diverse and equitable workplace where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

“We are immensely honored to receive the National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities,” said Dr. Karuna Shankar Pande, Director – Last Mile Operations, Amazon India. “At Amazon India, inclusivity is at the core of our values, and we are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone can thrive. This national recognition reaffirms our dedication to fostering an inclusive workplace and society, ensuring that individuals with disabilities have equal opportunities and access to resources,” added Pande.

 Amazon India has implemented a comprehensive strategy to integrate inclusivity across its operations, products, and services. This includes:

  • Building a Diverse and Inclusive Workplace: Increasing the onsite representation of PWD’s by 2X (2400+) in our off-roll representations and by 8X (85+) in on roll representations across our Operations sites in India
  • Accessible Workplace Practices: Implementing innovative workplace adaptations and technologies to accommodate diverse needs, ensuring a supportive and inclusive work environment for employees with disabilities.
  • Government Partnerships and Community Programs: Collaborating with the central and multiple state governments (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka) through MoUs for providing employment opportunities, NGOs and National institutes to facilitate skill-building programs.
  • Accessible Products and Services: Continuously innovating to enhance the accessibility of Amazon shopping, devices and services, enabling seamless experiences for customers with disabilities.
