Afghan envoy’s daughter assaulted in Pakistan
Another fracas hit Pakistan-Afghan ties a day after Pakistan PM Imran Khan and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had engaged in verbal skirmishes in Tashkent over the root of ongoing violence in region.
Kabul has taken strong objection to the man-handling in Islamabad of the daughter of the Ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan.
The daughter of the Afghan Ambassador was assaulted while riding a rented vehicle.
The news sent Pakistani authorities scrambling with the Islamabad Police launching a “thorough investigation”.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and relevant security authorities are closely in contact with the Ambassador and his family and extending full support in the matter, said a MFA statement.
While the security of the Ambassador and his family has been beefed up, law enforcement agencies are trying to trace and apprehend the culprits to be brought to justice, it said.
“It is reiterated that the safety and security of the diplomatic missions, as well as the diplomats and their families, is of utmost importance. Such incidents can and will not be tolerated,” said the Pakistan Foreign Office.
Afghan envoy’s daughter assaulted in Pakistan
Islamabad is trying to distance itself from the Afghan envoy’s daughter’s harassment not only because bilateral ties are at a delicate stage but the modus operandi is reminiscent of similar harassment of Indian diplomatic staff in Pakistan.
