Adviser to the Administrator visited Children’s Home Snehalaya for Boys, Maloya

 Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh along with Home Secretary, Secretary Social Welfare, Chief Engineer, Director Social Welfare and other Senior Officers of Chandigarh Administration visited Children’s Home Snehalaya for Boys, Maloya in order to review the functioning and infrastructural upkeep of the Home managed by the Department of Social Welfare Women and Child Development, Chandigarh.

Snehalaya for Boys is a Children’s Home, registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 and at present 94 children in need of care and protection are residing in the Home. The array of facilities such as formal and informal education, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, counselling services, remedial classes, vocational training courses, Multi-purpose Hall, library besides the basic facilitiesprovided to children were inspected by Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh.

The visit commenced with welcome of Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator with a mesmerizing band performance by children residing in the Home followed by a round of the Administrative block of Snehalaya where children were attending vocational courses in the trade of Electrical, Cooking & Baking, Computers besides this children in the age group of 7-12 years were attending Remedial Classes. A Special Educator was taking class of few Intellectually disabled children of Snehalaya and Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator interacted with children and appreciated their Art work.

The Adviser to the Administrator visited the Dormitories/residential area where children reside and appreciated the facilities provided by the Department of Social Welfare, Education Department for educational facilities and works done by the Engineering Department in order to ensure the general upkeep of the Home. The concentrated efforts of Shri. B.L. Sharma(IAS), Secretary Social Welfare and Ms. Navjot Kaur(PCS), Director Social Welfare to ensure that children are provided with properage appropriate facilities was also acknowledged by the Adviser.

Further, to spread the message of rich-green environment amongst young citizens of India, Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator; Shri. Arun Kumar Gupta (IAS), Home Secretary and Shri. B.L. Sharma (IAS), Secretary Social Welfare planted saplings in the campus of Snehalaya. The plantation was followed by a meeting of the stakeholders which was chaired by Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh wherein suggestions for improvement were invited from Home Secretary, Secretary Social Welfare, Chief Engineer, Director Social Welfare, Chairperson Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Program Manager Union Territory Child Protection Society, District Child Protection Officer, members of Child Welfare Committee, Staff of Snehalaya for Boys and other senior officers. Adviser to the Administrator took note of the suggestions and ensured necessary intervention will be made in convergence by the various Departments of Chandigarh Administration to provide a better environment for aholistic growth of the children, good education and better rehabilitation of these children.

The children of Snehalaya for Boys received Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator with their signature bouquet of claps followed by interaction of Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator with the children where he encouraged them to do self-study and narrated a motivational &inspiring storyand said that irrespective of any position the ultimate achievement depends upon the internal capabilities of a person. The children also showcasedan energetic Bhangra performance. The Department of Social Welfare had taught Bhangra to children residing at Snehalaya in their summer vacations alongwith other activities such as Art & Craft,Best Out of Waste, Theatre workshop, etc. Further, as a token of gratitude the children presented a boat made out of waste newspaper and a hand-made painting  to Shri. Manoj Kumar Parida (IAS), Adviser to the Administrator.
