Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, has applauded the Punjab Police for their recent decisive action against illegal travel agents operating in the state. Punjab Police have so far booked 43 travel agents for illegally advertising overseas employment opportunities on social media platforms, marking a significant step in the ongoing battle against unscrupulous recruitment practices.
Dr. Sahney said that he has been a long-time advocate for action against illegal recruitment agents, raising concerns on this issue for over a year now. “His office conducted a sting operation that uncovered the continued operations of banned recruiting agents in Punjab, leading to the submission of a comprehensive dossier listing these illegal agents to the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab on 18th June, 2023.” Dr. Sahney added
Dr. Sahney stated that he has been instrumental to evacuate such stranded youth from these countries and have rescued around 100 women of Punjab from Middle East.
Dr. Sahney emphasized the importance of vigilance among the public at large as these unauthorised travel agents dupe innocent youth promising them lucrative jobs in foreign countries but abandon them half way through in countries like Russia, Libya, Greece etc.
