Abhijeet Garg (89) helped Rock Zone to steer six wickets against Rose Zone in the inaugural match of the Men’s Seniors of the UTCA Domestic Tournament which began on Tuesday. Rock Zone won the toss and invited the opposition team to bat in this match played at the Launching Pad Academy in Mohali. Rose Zone scored 298/6 in the stipulated fifty overs with the fine knock of Tushar Joshi (105). Raman Bishnoi (48), Nikhil Sharma (44) and Nehal Pajni (41) also made important contributions. In reply, apart from Abhijeet Garg, unbeaten Nipun Sharda (61), Mandeep Singh (58) and Gaurav Puri (52) also scored half-centuries and led the team to victory in the 50th over.
Meanwhile, Twinkle Thakur’s unbeaten innings of 64 runs in the first match of Women’s Seniors T20 played at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, helped Terrace Zone to secured 28 runs win against Rock Zone. Terrace Zone won the toss and batted first and put up 155/2 on the board wherein Nikita Nain (45) and Sarah Mahajan (26) also made vital contributions. In reply, Deadly spell from skipper Jyoti (4/22) restricted Rock Zone to 127/7. Twinkle Pathak (47) emerged as the top scorer. In the second match of the day, Sukhna Zone defeated Plaza Zone by 78 runs in a one-sided affair. Sukhna Zone batted first and scored 159/5 runs as Aradhana Bisht scored fifty runs. Bhavana Rathore scored unbeaten 25 runs. In reply, Plaza Zone managed to score 81/9 runs. Skipper Nandini Sharma scored the highest score of the team by scoring 26 runs. Priyanka, Manisha Badhan and Bhavana Rathore took two wickets each.
