Training of school management committee members started in Haryana

The second and third quarterly training sessions for School Management Committee (SMC) members, under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, are being conducted from September 30 to October 28, 2024, to ensure the participation of parents for the holistic development of students and the creation of a better environment in schools in Haryana. This training is being held in 14,219 primary and secondary schools across Haryana, focusing specifically on the rights and duties of SMC members.

This SMC training is being conducted under the guidance of Jitendra Kumar (IAS), State Project Director of the Haryana School Education Project Council (HSSPP). Through the efforts of HSSPP’s Science Coordinator, Mrs. Sonali Vohra, Samarthya and Anubhuti Foundation are actively working to successfully conduct these training sessions at various levels.

In May 2024, 119 mentor trainers and 22 APCs were trained in Panchkula, through whom all Block Resource Persons and Assistant Block Resource Persons in each block received training. These trainers will now train the SMC members in the 14,219 primary and secondary schools across the state. The aim of this training is to make SMC members aware of their responsibilities and to motivate them to play an active role in the educational processes of schools.

This training is mandatory for SMC members, and it is conducted for committees that are formed every two years. The training is particularly important for the newly formed SMCs, constituted in July 2023, to enhance their effectiveness in the second year of their tenure. The primary goal of this initiative is to make SMC members more aware and dedicated to their roles. Active participation of the SMC will promote greater parental involvement in schools and improve student learning outcomes, ultimately enhancing the quality of education.

Between August 8 and 17, 2024, 119 mentor trainers trained 320 BRPs and 998 ABRCs across the state at the block level, who will then conduct training sessions for SMC members at the school level. To ensure the quality of block-level training, 84 district and block-level officers also participated in the training.

APC Ambala, Harjinder Singh, commented on the training, saying, “This training will help improve the role of the SMC, the use of the Vidyanjali portal, efforts to improve student learning outcomes, gender equality, and make SMC meetings more active.”

ABRC Yamunanagar, Gurvinder Kaur, stated, “It is very important to personalize the training. This makes the trainees feel that what they are learning is relevant to their work. Giving and receiving feedback during and after training, and measuring the outcomes through evaluation, is essential. This can improve the quality of the training and ensure that the participants have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge.”
