Sanjay Tandon asks aviation ministry to shift repair work of Chandigarh airport to summer

Due to the severe fog, flyers are facing the brunt in Chandigarh because flights often get delayed or cancelled. Besides, the number of flight operating from the city has come down drastically because of ongoing runway up gradation at Chandigarh international airport. The runway remains closed for repairs from 4 pm to 5 am which has added to the woes of the passengers. Taking a note of it, the state President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chandigarh Sanjay Tandon has written letters to the Union Aviation Minister, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Minister of State, Jayant Sinha requesting that the repair work could be postponed to summer season.
While sharing more information on the subject, Sanjay Tandon said, “Flights usually get cancelled or rescheduled in the winter schedule, especially in the morning slots, due to fog and low visibility. With the implementation of new watch hours, several airlines have curtailed their operations. These generally affect the professional plans of the commuters and they face difficulty in arranging the alternative mode of transportation too as in winters rail and road network remains sluggish”.
Adding to it, he disclosed, “The ongoing runway repair work which includes re-carpeting and resurfacing of the runway has brought down the frequency of flights. In a bid to save up the precious time people, I have suggested the union aviation minister and MOS that no repair or up gradation work should be carried out from November to March. This can be done in the summer season”.
