Maisie Williams is the latest celeb to join the Bitcoin bandwagon
Game of Thrones, despite ending in a very unsatisfactory manner for most fans, has easily redefined the way TV shows are made. It is arguably the most popular TV show ever, and it is increasingly rare to find someone who has not seen the show, let alone heard of it. The eight-season long epic has made superstars of its cast, most of whom were relative unknowns before landing their roles in Game of Thrones. What’s more, there is more to come from the world of Westeros as well. HBO are working on at least two spinoff shows, set in the centuries before the events of the show, with the author of the book series on which the show is based, A Song of Ice and Fire, namely George R.R. Martin, also consulting on these spinoffs as he did for the original show. Of course, fans of the books have been waiting for the last two novels in the series for nearly a decade now, so much so that the show actually went ahead of where the books are at this point. There is no way of knowing if the last few seasons will be how Martin writes them, or whether they will be something else entirely. He has hinted that the broad ending will remain the same, although the fates of some characters will be different. Nevertheless, Game of Thrones did receive a lot of backlash for the way it was brought to a close, especially in the last season, which was cut to just six episodes, with the character arcs of a number of the main characters coming under fire. One of those was the role of Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams.
Maisie Williams was just 14 years old when she first appeared on Thrones in the first season, and of course was one of the regular cast members for all eight seasons. Her performance as Arya Stark brought her global recognition and fame, as well as considerable fortune, and like almost every other well-to-do actor, she has been investing her money in various areas. One of those is bitcoin, which she did rather publicly. Williams put out a poll on her Twitter account, asking people to vote if she should buy Bitcoin. Several prominent people in the cryptocurrency space advised her not to, while others urged her to take the plunge, and some asked her to consider other cryptocurrencies instead. At the time the poll closed, there were over 900,000 votes, with the majority (53.4%) asking her not to buy bitcoin. Nevertheless, she posted a follow-up tweet where she thanked everyone for their advice and said that she had bought some anyway.
Her interest in bitcoin is not surprising, since cryptocurrencies are growing in popularity, largely due to the security provided by blockchain technology, as well as the anonymity it provides when transacting. This is also why several industries are moving towards accepting cryptocurrencies for payments, with online gambling being at the forefront of this. Many online casinos offer bitcoin gambling, where players can pay and receive winnings in the form of cryptocurrencies. This is becoming more and more popular, and it is also adding to the popularity of those online casinos themselves which offer this option.

It is interesting that Williams chose to invest in bitcoin, which is both a reflection of her fortune as well as her age, since younger people are likely to invest in cryptocurrencies. It will be interesting to see if other famous actors and celebrities are slowly turned and convinced by the crypto revolution – quite a few of them do have crypto investments, but the vast majority still do not.
