NABARD Punjab launch Sanitation Literacy&Crop Residue management campaign on Gandhi Jayant

NABARD launched a Sanitation Literacy Campaign in Punjab on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2020. The State Level Campaign was inaugurated at Chandigarh by Ms Jaspreet Talwar, IAS, Principal Secretary, DWSS, Govt. of Punjab.  Ms Talwar complimented NABARD for this noble initiative. She apprised about the various initiatives taken by Punjab Govt under WASH and shared about the Mission “Swachh Te Swasth Punjab”. She further informed that Punjab has become 98% ODF as per independent verification agency. She appreciated the good work done in this field by NABARD, Bankers, NGOs, SHGs, etc. and laid stress on convergence of their efforts for the better implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission 2. She outlined the State Government plan to provide piped drinking water to all the rural households with solid and liquid waste management.

Dr Rajiv Siwach, Chief General Manager, NABARD Punjab informed that the Sanitation Literacy Campaign will be conducted from 2nd October 2020 to 26th January 2021 in the state.  NABARD has been supporting Drinking Water and Sanitation activities under RIDF. A total of 9987 projects have been supported with an amount of Rs 1782 crore in Punjab covering water, sanitation and hygiene.

Shri Chander Shekhar Sharma, GM, SBI & senior officers of NABARD Punjab also attended the programme. DDMs of NABARD Punjab, channel partners like NGOs, FPOs, SHGs, etc. also joined the programme.

Later in the day, a state wide campaign on Crop Residue Management (CRM) having tagline “Prali na Jalao-Prali taun Kamao” was launched by flagging off of Mobile Van by Dr. Satwinder Singh Marwaha, Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board. Dr. Marwaha stressed upon in-situ management of crop residue and informed that it will increase micro nutrients and carbon conents in the soil which gives bumper crop and also saves water.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Siwach, informed that NABARD has conducted more than 8000 village level camps in the state to disseminate the message pertaining to Crop residue management during the last two years. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign is planned using innovative methods such as jingles, video clips on Doordarshan, radio messaging, etc.
