Haryana Police, amid the ongoing lockdown, has managed to seize 792 kg narcotic substance, 73,251 bottles of liquor either illicit or being transported illegally and 37,363 litres of Lahan (a raw material used for producing illicit liquor) by arresting 840 persons in this connection from Ambala Range, Karnal Range and Police Commissionerate Gurugram.

          Disclosing this here today, Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Mr Manoj Yadava informed that since the lockdown, a total of 746 cases were registered under the provisions of NDPS (46) and Excise Act (700) in Ambala Range (Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra), Karnal Range (Panipat, Karnal and Kaithal) and Police Commissionerate Gurugram.

          In addition to effective enforcement of lockdown, we have also launched a crackdown with highly visible police patrolling to make sure all kind of criminal elements could not take advantage of trying times in any manner.

          Taking action against bootleggers in Karnal Range, he informed that a total of 13,331 bottles of English and country-made liquor, 2473 of illicit liquor, 413 of beer and 35290 litres of Lahan were seized. Police have also seized 32188 bottles of English and country made liquor, 218 bottles of beer, 65 of illicit liquor and 2073 litres of Lahan from Ambala Police Range. Similarly, 24563 bottles of liquor were seized from Gurugram district.

          Sharing figures of narcotic seizure, the DGP informed that a whopping 461 kg 443 gram drugs including poppy husk, ganja, opium, smack, charas, heroin were confiscated from Ambala Range, followed by over 170 kg in Karnal Range and 160 kg 700 gram narcotics in Gurugram.      Stepping up vigilance, the police teams have also nabbed a most wanted criminal in Ambala Police range, besides busted a gang of ATM robbers with the recovery of Rs 3.80 lakh cash and ATM machine. During the lockdown period, 10 cases of murder including two blind murder and attempt to murder have been worked out by arresting 15 accused in Ambala Range. We have also busted a gang of human trafficking in Kurukshetra with the arrest of five accused, he added.

          In Karnal Range too, Police have arrested a most-wanted criminal involved in heinous crime from Kaithal district. Two gangs of burglary were busted in Panipat wherein 6 persons were arrested. With this, 7 cases were worked out and case property worth Rs 2.10 lakh was recovered. In addition, one gang of vehicle theft and two of mobile phone theft were also busted.

          He informed that Police have also taken stern action against those spreading rumours or vitiating communal harmony in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. The cyber crime units have arrested five rumour-mongers from Gurugram on the charges of creating panic by spreading misleading and fake information. Apart from this, two accused were apprehended from Alwar, Rajasthan for cheating people on the pretext of online sale of liquor.
