Man suffers heart attack, undergoes emergency bypass surgery
Amidst Covid-19 horror, a 65-yr shopkeeper from Gurdaspur has successfully undergone an emergency bypass surgery at a private hospital, Mohali recently.
Ashok Kumar Bajaj has suffered a heart attack and was investigated at Amritsar. He was diagnosed with severe heart disease and referred to Dr Harinder Singh Bedi, director of cardio vascular sciences at Ivy Hospital.
Timely surgery saved Ashok, who recovered well now, said Bedi.
In another case a 53-yr old woman from Malerkotla was successfully treated for severe infection on a heart valve, which got complicated with heart and kidney failure besides sepsis at Ivy recently.
In both cases the whole cardiac staff came together as soon as possible and an emergency surgeries were performed, said Dr Bedi
Dr Bedi further said that in these troubled times, non-Covid heart emergencies are also required to be taken care of with extra precautions as any patient can be a asymptomatic carrier of Covid-19. .

Any emergency patient is first required to be negative for Covid virus besides very meticulous precautions are required to be taken by donning a special protective suits, ‘Hazmat’ (hazardous material) by all health care workers, he informed.
