Covid-19 Update: Government Sets Up 21064 Relief Camps

Both Central and state government have set up relief camps to help check the inter-state movement of migrant workers

In a short span of time, Ministry of Home Affairs and various State Governments have set up a total of 21,064 relief camps to help lakhs of people. These relief camps are also providing food to 23 lakh migrant workers and destitute people, said Ministry of Home Affairs during the daily press conference to update the media on COVID-19.

Officials said the Ministry of Health has formed a COVID-19 committee for scientific agencies like Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Defence Research and Development Organisation, Indian Institute of Science working in the areas of science, technology and biotechnology. The committee will be led by Dr Vinod Paul, Member of Niti Aayog focusing on the research required to tackle the pandemic.

Apart from healthcare workers in hospitals, through their website, ministry is also preparing a large work force of those affiliated with the government health initiatives for the critical care required at this time, said Ministry of Health during the conference.

Earlier a Group of Ministers comprising of  senior Cabinet ministers assessed the situation and made an action plan like swift preparation of dedicated hospitals and health profiling of migrant workers.

While updating the audience during the conference, ICMR have used 36 per cent of their capacity and have tested 4346 samples on 30th March. With the help of private labs accredited by ICMR, 399 patients have tested COVID-19 in last 24 hours. They have also tested 42,788 samples till date.

As of 31 March, 1251 COVID-19 cases have reported leading to 32 deaths in India. Whereas  227 new cases along with 3 deaths from Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh have been reported in last 24 hours.
