CII organized Chandigarh Education and Skill Development Dialogue 2020 with varied stakeholders
“UT Technical Educational Department is getting digitized to boost placements,” says Mr Sachin Rana, Special Secretary, Technical Education, Chandigarh Administration while addressing the CII Chandigarh Education – Higher & Technical and Skill Development Dialogue today at its Northern Regional Headquarters. He also apprised the gathering of how the ITIs in the city are providing short and long term courses and bridging the skill gaps through various apprenticeship programmes for youth. We have already able to place around 80 per cent of the PMKVY target assigned to Chandigarh, he informed. Mr Rana also spoke about a structured Skill Competition to be organized in Chandigarh to nurture its skill development initiatives.
“The role of RUSA is critical to the improvement of the infrastructure of higher education and its next phase will focus on innovation, employability and placement,” informed Dr Dalip Kumar, Additional State Project Director State Project Directorate, RUSA, Chandigarh Administration. He further mentioned that fiscal benefits & funding is directly related to NAAC accreditation of educational institutes and over 70 per cent of such academic hubs in Chandigarh have an ‘A’ grading with 47000 students graduating every year.
Mr Sarvjeet Singh Virk, Chairman, CII Chandigarh also expressed his views and opined that in Gender Parity Index (GPI), which is used to measure gender balance, in primary education, Chandigarh stands 2nd in India. In higher education also, it stands fairly well (1.45), much higher than the national average of 0.92. He further mentioned that as a planned city, Chandigarh allocated space for institutes of higher education as per global standards. Mr Manish Gupta, Member, CII Chandigarh Council & Proprietor, Synergy Enterprises also graced the occasion and addressed the audience hailing from both Industry & Academia.

The dialogue witnessed participation from varied stakeholders including educational institutions from schools, colleges, professional and technical institutions, skill development centres, ITIs, training partners, educationist, industry, placement consultants etc. CII is playing a proactive role as a catalyst for sustainable development of the city and has been regularly interacting with the UT Administration, local industry, and the civil society on various economic and social issues and the education sector marks an important agenda for its activities. Improving quality in school education in Chandigarh; Increasing digitization in primary and secondary education; Train the trainers; Organizing Job fairs; Skill gap analysis; Multi-sectoral skill development center; Creating Model Skill Centers and other relevant topics formed key agenda of the CII Dialogue.
