550th Birth Anniversary Of GURU NANAK DEV JI
Gurupurab also known as Guru Nanak Dev’s Prakash Diwas celebrates the Birth of the first Guru and Sikhism Community. This is the most important festival for the Sikhs.
The festivities of the Sikh religion revolve around 10 Sikh Guru’s.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the founder of the Sikh Religion he was born on Puranmashi of Kattak(1469) Shekhupura District of Pakistan now Nanak Sahib.
It is an announced holiday in India.

People flock to the Gurudwaras in astounding numbers with their friends and family.
As a form of sewa there are stalls serving all kinds of delicious foods outside the Gurudwaras and inside langar the food gets prepared by the people is served to everyone regardless of their caste.

People also serve sweets to others to show their happiness to others.

Gurdwaras are known to be a calming and soothing place, and during Gurpurab, the fervour multiplies.

THREE BOOKS ARE LAUNCHING ON THE OCCASION OF GURUPURAB:
Union human resource development minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal and minister for food processing industries Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal will launch three books on Guru Nanak Dev’s Birthday.
These books are published in Punjabi language translated into 15 major Indian languages.
The national book trust has published these books with the titles as follows:

to spread the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev amongst the Indian Sub- continent.
