Meeting regarding issues related Inter- State Smuggling of liquor held
The Administrator, Union Territory Chandigarh has constitute a committee to look into the menace of inter-state smuggling of liquor. A meeting of the Committee was held today with the Advisor to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh to discuss and deliberate on the issues relating to Inter- State Smuggling of liquor.Sh. M.P.Singh, IAS,Additional Chief Secretary , Punjab and Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal, IAS,Additional Chief Secretary, Haryana attended the meeting as special invitees.
All the members of the Committee deliberated in detail on the issues and finalized:
- That there is a need to harmonize the excise duty structure and rationalize the price difference among all the member states/UT and all the relevantissues will be taken care of at the time of framing the Excise Policy for the coming year.
- The enforcement agencies of the States and UT will be strengthened to plug the smuggling of liquor and strict action will be taken against the person involved in the smuggling.
- The Committee has finalized that there will be two Joint Action Committees, one at the level of AETCs and second at the level of Senior Officers of the States/UT. The AETCs of all the three States/UT district in-charges of Excise (Chandigarh, Panchkula & Mohali)will meet once in every month together to stop smuggling of liquor by sharing of information. The Joint Action Committee at Senior Officers level will meet on quarterly basis.
