Chandigarh Education Department soon launches online school management system.
CHANDIGARH—Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) was borne after its scheduled delivery date and it was underweight. In many states it is bickering parents (governments) do not see eye to eye so it may have put on a ventilator. But the Chandigarh Administration is doing its best to make the scheme a success by providing revenue and technology booster dose. Soon an online school management system like e-Punjab will be in place in Chandigarh. While talking to Mr Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director, Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, said that in a bid to streamline the city’s school education and be ready for future challenges, the education department has decided to implement city’s specific system.
Mr Brar further revealed that a committee under the guidance of Mr B.L.Sharma, education secretary, Chandigarh has visited Punjab to see the working of the system. The committee impressed by the system and approved its implementation in all city schools under which information regarding school staff, students and school infrastructure will be provided online, he added.
He said that it would be implemented in all government schools under which information regarding school staff, students and school infrastructure will be available online and will be updated by the concerned school management at regular intervals.
Mr Brar also stated that the department was in process for appointment of over 600 JBT, TGT and PGT teachers under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) project to come over the teacher shortage in schools. The central government has increased the budgetary allocation for SSA project in Chandigarh. For the fiscal 2015-16 it was Rs 59.58 crore increased to Rs 65.57 crore in 2016-17. The budgetary allocation for SSA project is Rs 99.37 crore for 2018-19 against Rs 93.87 for the fiscal 2017-18.
“Adopting the information technology will make not only the school education up-to-date but also in a transparent and time saving manner. Besides, a number of initiatives have been taken under the e-governance programme. Efforts of the education department started paying dividend,” he said.
Apart from this, the school education department has also introduced a number of mobile applications, including the provision of school login (for school heads), staff login (for staff members) and monitoring mid day meal, said he. The department has also implemented grievance redressal system, biometric attendance system, availability of Adhaar card to students, mobile applications and e-office to monitor the movement of files, added he
While talking to Mr Bikram Rana, SLO, NSS Cell, Chandigarh revealed that Adhaar card number generated of 100 per cent government school students online and these numbers have been linked to various scholarships and other incentives schemes. Scholarship amount is directly transferred in the accounts of beneficiaries and so far no complaint regarding non-receipt of scholarship has been received in his office, says Mr Rana and added the department would distribute scholarship amounting to Rs 9 crore for the last fiscal in a more transparent and hassel-free, paperless manner.
Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) was a response to the demand for quality basic education but despite being highly ambitious , the plan ran into rough weather in several states, the education department is spearheading the battle against illiteracy in the city. EOM
